10 & 11 weeks

we have two more weeks under our belts with this little guy that have been filled with smiles, better head control, rolling onto his side, and some man-sized toots. i love this picture because you can really see those pretty blue eyes....they are a lot like his aunt jen's!

10 weeks....

11 weeks....hilarious....

...this particular startled face has been making an appearance a LOT lately. we've been making all kinds of funny noises to see what kind of looks and smiles we can get out of him. i promise we aren't trying to scare him to death!

stinky shots

Will got his first shots friday afternoon. i was warned that this would be terrible...for him and us. i think it was terrible for a few reasons:

1. he was in a pretty good mood as we loaded him in the car...blissfully unaware of the pain we were about to inflict.

2. i held his hands and brian held his head as the doctor and nurse pulled back to plunge what seemed like swords into his sweet little thighs.  the cry when he (or any baby) is in pain is different than his regular cry.  it is a cry we hadn't heard yet.  it was gut wrenching.  i cried along with him.  i think brian might have cried a little too.

3. we couldn't give him an ice cream cone afterward. but i fed him again even though it wasn't time. best i could do.

4. that "what just happened!?" look

5. not knowing if those little legs are sore....with those first bandages as reminders of what we have just done to our son. unfortunately, he's too little to appreciate that they were captain america and iron man.

ok, maybe i'm being a little dramatic. luckily, Will was a total trooper...not fussy at all. and he slept from 9pm-4:30am...possibly our longest stretch yet. it wasn't long before the sad faces turned into the face i see numerous times throughout the day..."mom, is it time to eat again?"

best friends

"it's nice to meet you, thumb.  i have a feeling we are going to be best friends. if only we could figure out how to get those other four fingers out of our way."    -Will

brian was a thumb sucker, so we've decided he gets this after daddy.  i am stoked. i can barely remember the blanket, diapers, wipes, and change of clothes...remembering a pacifier everywhere we went was just too much pressure.  thanks for taking care of that for me Will!

8 & 9 weeks

Will had a two month doctor's appointment on tuesday. he was supposed to get shots, but they were out of one of the vaccines. we'll be going back within a week....definitely not looking forward to that! the other day, i scratched his little knee with my ring when we were playing. it took a second for the pain to register on his face and then he started wailing....and then i started wailing. i don't know if I can handle shots!

here are his current stats...

birth length: 21 inches
2 months: 23.5 inches

birth weight: 7 lbs 2 oz
2 months: 10 lbs 11 oz

he is smiling more and more, wants to sit up more and more, and is developing some serious rolls on those thighs....

doesn't he just look more PLUMP at 9 weeks? i love it.  maybe i should have used this picture for 9 weeks instead....the true Will....

you just keep growing, little buddy....you get cuter every day!

charlottesville

two weekends ago, we made our first big trip...normally 3.5 hours sans baby...4.5 hours avec baby to charlottesville (and that takes care of all the french i remember after 2 years in high school).  my friend brad was defending his dissertation....i'm so proud of him, now Dr. Brad. we came into grad school together at nc state.  we actually sat right next to each other at the recruitment dinner before either of us had committed to a graduate school.

pictures taken during orientation from our Fall 07 grad student catalog

so, we had been through the trenches together from day one.  brad is the only reason grad school was fun most days. after a particularly long day of making something affectionately known as sodium barf (and breathing a little too much ether), i caught brad shaking it like a polaroid picture. he let me have an 80s hour on our pandora lab radio....some days we would listen to a movie in your mind....some days would be michael jackson/johnny cash/movie theme only days....anything to take your mind off  of being a student at 27 years old!!!   our silliness is best illustrated in this group picture (at my defense last year) where we are the only ones who know how to be really really ridiculously good looking...so many fun times and great memories!

blue steel

we stuck around the whole weekend so that we could introduce Will to all of our favorite people.  we hung out with the chandler/durrer crew as much as possible...scarfed down tacos together and, as usual, i got a little weepy because i miss them so much! robin taught my boy how to fist bump...pretty good right?  yeah, she's awesome like that.

we also crashed the brill household for dinner on saturday...we pretty much invited ourselves. Will loved being held by angie and katie.  thanks for letting us hang out with you dwight, angie, and katie...the food was incredible...WAY better than outback ;-)  we love you guys!

katie is a professional baby holder...she's way better than me! and she's almost a doctor.

Will got to meet other friends from The Point on sunday.  this is his "i'm ready to go to church" face...very serious, that boy.

it was so good to see everyone there....sort of like we had never left. i didn't get nearly enough pictures there....too much visiting to get done!  i finally got to meet pastor gabe and kari's sweet baby miriam...i miss you (and singing with you) kari!

by the end of the trip, Will was sick of his car seat...but he hung with us pretty well.  however, we may have ruined one of our go-to's for quieting a crying baby...midnight trips in the car don't seem to be working anymore! AH!

the faces of william webb

outside projects

now that it's summer (i know...it's been summer for a while, but i was busy growing and birthing a human), we have a ton of outdoor projects we want to tackle. we haven't really done much to the outside since we moved in, so our house is totally the trashy one on the block.  we bought some flowers for the steps and got awesome deck furniture from my aunt dee dee, but we will be the first to admit...this place looks rough.

the first order of business was to remove the huge rhododendron. it was absolutely beautiful when it was in bloom, but the inspector said it was compromising the foundation of the porch...it had to go.

we are also in the process of removing the shrubs/bushes/weeds (?) from the side of the house. new landscaping will hopefully start soon, at least to the front.  however, this big bush overtaking the side of the porch is staying for a while.  it's a BLACKBERRY bush and is LOADED. i think it might have to stay indefinitely!

check out our awesome downspout drainage pipes (see what i mean? our neighbors must cringe every time they drive by).  my dad whipped these up when we first moved in just to get the water away from the foundation...a quick fix.  we have major water problems we need to deal with. the downspouts were just cut off at the bottom which created HUGE holes right next to the foundation.... as in, holes that i could get my whole leg down in.  yikes!

brian spent a whole day removing the rhododendron and a bush on the side of the house.  one broken mattock later, the front of the house is noticeably more bare...

and surprise!...the bush was hiding a nice crack in the brick. we need to fill in the mortar in that crack and all of the cracks in the column going up the steps....ivy was the culprit there.

so...we have a LOT of work to do.....our to-do list...

wash the porch
rip out rhododendron
rip out plants and ivy on side of house (or prune?)
fix mortar in cracks
till front yard to even-out crappy work by the city and replant grass
till sides of house and regrade
landscape front of house
fill cracks in porch steps
paint porch steps so they don't look like poop
paint porch railing
paint ugly board above door (or better yet, replace with a door that FITS!!!)
paint the house...bye bye red!
flash chimney
relocate family of squirrels living in our soffit  :-)

did i make it through a whole post without a picture of my boy!!!???

6 & 7 weeks

this baby is getting big...and long...and more handsome by the day!....if i can be so bold!

the 6th week was a rough one. we ran head first into the 6th week growth spurt, and this mama was a regular milk cow the whole week. at least, we think all the fussiness was a growth spurt...isn't it hard to know?!

looking at these pictures, i'm pretty convinced of it.  this child is definitely longer. we still have him in newborn onesies, but i think we are going to need to retire them pretty soon. that is sad and exciting all at the same time.

my cousin beth took some awesome pictures of the little guy while we hung out at the pool. Will is starting to smile more and more revealing a mama's worst nightmare together with those baby blues (during the teenage years at least)....DIMPLES!
